COVID lockdowns in Uganda have ravaged families, causing domestic violence and teenage pregnancy to skyrocket.

We recently talked with Julius, our Marketing and Communications Officer in Uganda. He shared about the devastation the pandemic school shutdowns have caused for families and young women.

In Julius’ words: “Schools remain closed. As a result, many teenagers have relapsed into vices that have led many girls into getting pregnant. In northern Uganda alone, at least 17,000 school-aged girls got pregnant during the lockdown. This has undone all our efforts to keep girls in school.”

Can you imagine? All the work our staff and church partners have been doing in Uganda to keep young girls in school, so that they can have Hope for the future, gone!

Would you consider helping to rebuild what coronavirus has broken down in Uganda? Your gift might keep a teenage girl in school!

In sharing about communities where kids can’t go to school, Julius explained that these communities report between 13 and 20 teenage pregnancies per month! And when teen girls get pregnant and can’t finish school, they’re more likely to continue living in the generational cycle of poverty.

But education provides youth with protection, skills for the future, and Hope to break the clutches of extreme poverty.

We want to help give teen girls in Uganda Hope for the future. And we need your help!

Your generous gift of $25, $50, or more will provide Child Protection Training for families, churches, and their surrounding communities. This specialized training:

  • Is conducted by police, children's rights advocates, and religious leaders.
  • Educates the community about vulnerable people and how to keep them safe.
  • Provides mentoring and teaches community members that protecting the rights of children is a collective responsibility.

Your sacrificial gift will go directly to the most urgent need among all our programs. Right now, preventing domestic abuse and teen pregnancy in Uganda is our top priority! If this project receives enough funding, additional gifts will support other strategic needs.
