Do you remember what it was like to be a child? You were full of awe and wonder at the world around you… filled with bright hope for your future. You could be anything, do anything… nothing seemed impossible.
Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down with Kevin Dyer, founder of Bright Hope International. I felt amazed at the childlike wonder I saw in his eyes. He certainly reflected on a very special moment in his life.
“When I was a little boy. . . God called me into ministry,” Kevin shared. His eyes sparkled as he reflected on this pivotal moment in his life. At only ten years old, Kevin had prayed, “God, if you’ll send a shooting star across the sky, I’ll serve you all my life.” And that’s when it happened… a star jetted across the sky as though God Himself were tossing it from one side of the universe to the other.
And still, more than 70 years later, this sense of wonder and trust in God’s faithfulness burns brighter than ever within his heart.
It was then, after receiving this divine confirmation from the Lord, that Kevin committed his life to serving Him. And the fruit of his commitment is the organization you know today as Bright Hope International.
Kevin shares his journey in the early years of Bright Hope, showing how God so intricately put the pieces together. Stories like infiltrating impenetrable borders to deliver thousands of Bibles to persecuted Christians! I felt so thankful and honored that we could capture these memories of God’s faithfulness on film.
Listening to Kevin, now in his eighties, share with so much zeal the journey of his life was amazing. Seeing the path God had taken him brought me so much encouragement. By the end of our conversation, I was filled with a sense of excitement and joy. Emotions, I suspect, Kevin experienced throughout his years of fruitful ministry.
Having now passed the baton of leadership on to his son, Kevin shares the unique steps the Lord had him take to begin the organization back in the 1960’s, as well as how the natural transition between father and son only served to strengthen Bright Hope.
Now under the leadership of C.H. Dyer, Bright Hope continues to bring sustainable hope for today, tomorrow, and eternity to the extreme poor through our many programs across the globe.
