“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Hebrews 12:1-2
The news this past week has celebrated the life and memorial of Reverend Billy Graham, a man affectionately nicknamed, “America’s pastor.” Who would have imagined that a man born on a humble dairy farm in North Carolina would have grown up to preach the Gospel to nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories.
Though he counseled a dozen U.S. Presidents, was knighted and was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, his life was marked by genuine humility, integrity and a passion for his family only rivalled by his zeal in serving God.
Reflecting on his story leaves me encouraged that God can use anyone with a willing heart to glorify Him and draw people to Christ. But above all, his legacy has challenged me to share God’s love and authentically live out my faith, for there is no higher calling than that.
As writer, Ed Stetzer, poignantly shared in an article on CNN:
“If you are a Christian, Graham’s legacy of evangelism and cultural engagement is yours to maintain. Graham understood what it meant to be a good and faithful servant. Today, that baton has been passed…”
As a believer, you are called to run the race God has uniquely planned for you. How will you answer the call to serve Him faithfully, to share the Gospel and to love those in need….?
