Uganda ~ In the scorching sun of Oyam, Jasper, a loving father, works with his children spreading out corn to dry. Their strength as a family stems from the unity they have built since they met Bright Hope. Jasper’s infectious smile shines as he shares how Bright Hope’s Fathers’ Club training has restored his family. Read on to learn how to change a community.
Jasper shared: “My mother gave birth to three of us, but my favorite brother was killed by the rebels during the war. That loss and other hardships took a toll on me. I lost hope and began having suicidal thoughts. I was extremely poor. I had no one to stand by me and give me hope.”
Give a Father Hope
In Jasper’s words: “Bright Hope has become a companion to my family. Their training ignited a fire in me. I learned to put my trust in God, and this has helped me to become who I am today. When I joined the Fathers’ Club, my eyes were opened to the enormous opportunities around me. I began a personal poultry project and now I also grow beans, maize and sunflowers.”
Jasper continued: “Initially, I relied on a small family plot to grow food only for my family. However, it was never enough and sometimes we starved during the dry season. But after the Bright Hope training in agriculture, I began renting land using money from my chicken project. I had a very good harvest and saved my money in our Savings for Life group. Shortly after that, in 2021, my wife became ill. Her sickness cost me all the money I had saved but I thank God, I had it! I could have sold our only piece of land to pay hospital bills. Although life was tough, I still had chickens stocked at home. I sold them to buy seeds and rented farmland for the next season.”
Jasper recalled: “I used to speak sharp words to my wife and children, but after the parenting and marriage fellowship and training, I talk calmly to them. Now, we make decisions that affect our family together. I can honestly say Bright Hope has walked with my family. Now, you can walk it with other fathers that have not had the same opportunity as me.”
How Can You Change a Community in Uganda?
For generations, Jasper’s family had been trying to survive on less than $2 a day. Sadly, more than 700 million people across the globe are struggling with this same hopeless reality. This struggle weighs heavily on the heart of each father.
But Bright Hope’s Fathers’ Clubs make a tremendous impact on struggling communities in Uganda. They teach men how to love, nurture, and sacrifice for their wives and children. If you can capture the hearts of each father, you can transform families and communities! Fathers’ Clubs also provide low-interest loans to members and equip them to start small businesses and increase their incomes over time.
Your ongoing partnership will help break the generational cycle of abject poverty by transforming fathers, families and entire communities. Please join us as we build fathers, families and communities together!
