On a trip overseas last year, I stood in a home of a poor widow—a middle-aged woman who had lost hope because her husband had died, and she was left with three small children and no job.
The pastor of our church partner had met her a few days earlier. He offered to let her children attend the church’s school for free so she could work during the day and begin to make some money.
She was so thankful for the pastor’s help.
As I stood there listening to her story, she turned to me and asked me to pray for her, which I did, of course. I didn’t think much of it, but on the way back the pastor grabbed my forearm and pulled me close, explaining:
“She is lonely, and she doesn’t have anyone emotionally supporting her. Prayer is the best thing we can give her because it means we care, and God will send comfort to help her through her grief and poverty, because we prayed.”
“Wow,” I thought. I had forgotten that prayer was such an important part of the path out of poverty. I wondered to myself, “What if we could get more people to pray for her and others living in extreme need?”
That’s why I asked my team to create the Extreme Poverty Prayer Guide. It explains how to best pray for the poor and offers you seven top prayer needs for those desperate for Hope.
Your prayers could move mountains and bless those who are hungry, thirsty, lonely, jobless and afraid.
